In 1997 I made my first Konkoj sculpture from Clay. It was Raku fired and given to my mom who has had it safe in her garden for all these years! Here’s a photo of this first creation.
After returning to the UK last year, I got busy once again with clay making as a form of personal therapy. I have also had the good fortune to meet a great artist Tim Cross who runs the Lowestoft Ceramics Studio. This gave me the chance to work on a small series of my Clams.
This new series I’ve started working on is smaller in size than the original 1997 version, but each new piece have been given an extra bit of of love due to the quality of the glaze I’ve chosen. We now have Matt black ash feel on the outsides, it’s like a magma shell! And the internals are a mix of many colours all hand blended and super glossy!
My new series currently comprises of a series of 7 pieces. 4 of these (seen below) have been already fired and are now available to purchase from my online shop
Aura Green with a mixture of orange undertones. It’s the 1960’s all over again!
Striking lemon, with a hint of Aura Green
Burnt orange, with hints of Aura Green
Next week I’m hoping to have the second batch fired and ready to go, fingers crossed they don’t explode in the kiln. Can’t wait to see them fired, it’s always a great surprise 🙂
