After a long time away I’ve moved back to blighty !!
Over the past 12 years I have been living and working out in Berlin. It was a great place to be for a good period of of my life. I spent many hours working with great people and fun companies while enjoying the German surroundings and city life. While I was there I designed many things from art toy figures for companies Inc. Titan Merchandise and the Wellcome Trust, art and sculpture for gallery exhibitions, animations to keep me amused in lockdown periods and even the odd board game which I designed and played with with my 2 children. I was running my gallery/studio in Mitte, which is the centre of town, but sadly that’s all now changed now and under new ownership as I gave it to a good friend.
Now as we all know, lockdown has been a nightmare for many people and after a long time working with my own mental health issues, I had to take the option of living back in the UK where I can take a break from major city life. Taking this step end of last year has really helped me move onto doing more things which feel me with a sense of joy and much less stress. I’ve already started reaching out to the local artist community and getting myself back on track with everything including having an active social life and being part of a think tank for the local area.
I’ve taken some time out and have constructed a temporary artist studio, where I have all my artist kit for production of new art pieces and I have updated my website with a few new pages, loads of new images and a bio page.
My Focus is getting much clearer for 2022, I’ve reunited with my love for making sculpture and working with my hands, so I’m particularly focused on this area of my work right now, building up a body of work that I hope to exhibit locally and internationally. I’m mainly working with clay currently, I connected with a local artist who has a studio in town and he’s been giving me loads of advice about working with this material. I used to make clay sculptures years ago, way before I ever started to get into plastic and concrete casting.
This month I’m updating my website, and I’ve also manage to pull together another one for my workshops at www.plastik-surgery.com so I’m hopefully getting back into my teaching, helping others make interesting unique stuff from all sorts of materials using silicone rubber moulds and hand built techniques here in the UK, more news on this soon.
